Star Trek TOS 3rd season

Wednesday, August 31st, 2005 @ 20:31

Finally I bought the third season of The Original Series.
Nothing compares to Kirk and the Enterprise.
Don’t give me Next Generation, no DS9, no Enterprise…
There is only one ship and one captain. No excuses.

Eighties again: Scanners

Wednesday, August 31st, 2005 @ 17:21

In my 80s fever I came around Scanners, so I watched it again: definitely the first movie with Michael Ironside I saw. Followed by: Top Gun (seen a countless time), Total Recall, Startship Troopers (good sfx but terrible story unless it’s parody), The perfect storm (forgotten…).

The Dead Zone

Sunday, August 21st, 2005 @ 17:22

So, if I talk about was I like and what I dislike it’s good to say that yesterday evening I saw a good old movie: The Dead Zone. It’s funny to see Tom Skerrit a few years after Alien and a few years before Top Gun and Herbert Lom that is famous because he is… Chief Insp. Charles LaRousse Dreyfus in the Pink Panther movies! Just a word about Brooke Adams: she was also on Invasion of the Body Snatchers, a good remake starring Donald Sutherland.

Alien hunter

Sunday, August 21st, 2005 @ 17:03

I saw just a few hours ago the movie Alien Hunter and (keep-the-story-short) it s*cks. I wonder how many writers/directors waste their time (and money) shooting stupid movies. Do they know (it’s Christmas, ehm, back to the subject) that a lot of good movies are still out there and we remember them, Alien and The Thing just to name a few…

On WotW again

Tuesday, August 16th, 2005 @ 16:28

I heard the original (1938) radio transmission (you can find it in mp3 format on the web) and it seems very well done. I can imagine those “early” 1900 listeners confused and scared by the news… We lost a lot of innocence since then.
The movie turns out to be at least sufficient although, for the time (1953), it’s full of sfx…

iTunes

Thursday, August 11th, 2005 @ 20:27

I’m buying from iTunes right now, I hope that everything goes well ’cause I don’t like very much the idea of buying music without support but I’d like to try (f*ck drm).
My choosen albums: Stay on these roads by A-Ha and Ma che film la vita (live) by Nomadi.

War of the worlds (spoiler warning)

Thursday, August 11th, 2005 @ 11:19

I’ve seen WotW yesterday evening and I must admit that is a good movie. After all I trust Mr. Spielberg and Tom Cruise is not bad. Very good audio effects althought I prefer I more spatial sound (it seemed a plain 5.1 or DTS, no SDDS) but every single bolt of lightning it’s stunning.
IMHO it seems a collage of other great movies (the beginning is somewhat similar to Saving Private Ryan) but has its pace and a good dose of action that kicks in whenever you think you deserve some rest.
Probably it’s not a masterpiece since we know what Mr. Spielberg can do, but it’s ok for an action-packed SciFi movie (kinda Aliens maybe…).
The cantina scene with Tim Robbins it’s a little bit long and tight… Also I wished that the idiot son died instead of disappearing in such stupid (and poorly direct I have to say) way…
I’d like to read the book and watch the original movie as soon as possible.

Concerned about your privacy in the cyber-world ? Just read this (just an example, nowadays there are tons of news like this).
This could turn the entire life-thing into pure paranoia. Thanks all.

D-Day (one year and two months late…)

Monday, August 8th, 2005 @ 21:43

One of the most beautiful journey I recently made was the tour of Normandy last year, during the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings… If you have been touched by the movie Saving Private Ryan (and History of course) you cannot miss this locations.

The incredible sight of the Colleville cemetery is stunning:
