International Holocaust Remembrance Day

Everyone of us has some important days to remember: your birthday, your anniversary, your car insurance fall due date, …

But this day should be common to all mankind since today we are asked to remember what happened in Europe during WWII: the biggest (and unfortunately not the last) genocide in history.

In 2004 and 2005 I visited the Colleville American Cemetery and the landing beaches of Operation Overlord (see the gallery) which we remember as the beginning of the liberation of Europe from Nazi occupation. Today we remeber the Soviet troops opening the gates at Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

The last trip of 2005 was in Nuremberg (beginning of december) so I visited the places where Hitler rose his crazy army (you can use Google Earth to take a virtual tour).

In 2006 I wished to visit Auschwitz-Birkenau during a trip through Czech Republic and Poland. Currently this trip is delayed with much to my regret. I’ll take the virtual tour.
